Frequently asked questions

Which barcode type should I use?

EAN-13 (or UPC-A in North America) for retail products, ITF-14 for shipping cartons, and Code 128 for labels, inventory and anything that contains letters.

Do I need to calculate the check digit?

No. Enter 12 digits for EAN-13 (11 for UPC-A, 7 for EAN-8, 13 for ITF-14) and the correct check digit is added. If you type the full number, it is verified.

Can I use these barcodes on products sold in stores?

The barcodes are standard and scan anywhere, but shops require a product number licensed from GS1. This tool draws the barcode; it does not assign numbers.

How do I make many barcodes at once?

Switch to Bulk, paste one value per line (up to 1,000) and download them all as SVG or PNG files in one ZIP. Everything is generated in your browser.

Which format is best for printing?

SVG is a vector file and stays perfectly sharp at any size. If you need PNG, choose the 3× or 4× scale for print.
