Frequently asked questions

What does flattening a PDF do?

It turns interactive elements — form fields, checkboxes, comments, highlights and stamps — into ordinary page content. They look exactly the same but can no longer be edited or removed.

Will my filled-in answers be kept?

Yes. The values you entered are drawn onto the page, so they stay visible, print correctly and display the same in every PDF reader.

Do links still work after flattening?

Yes, as long as “Keep links clickable” is on. Turn it off to remove links as well.

Is flattening the same as protecting a PDF?

Not quite. Flattening stops casual editing of fields and comments; to stop all changes, protect the flattened file with a password using Protect PDF.

Are my documents uploaded?

No. Flattening runs entirely in your browser, so your forms and their answers never leave your device.
